Bryce Anthony EdwardsStaff WriterCAB hosted Cozy and Grateful, an event about gratitude, Wednesday in Sneaky Park. The event encouraged creativity and community spirit. Over 100 students attended the event, which offered crafting things such as bouquet arrangements using real flowers. There were also so-called gratitude boxes to paint for people to hold memories and reminders of things to be grateful for.

Karina RodriguezStaff WriterThe University of La Verne and the Jewish Federation of the Greater San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys co-hosted the 14th annual Kristallnacht Remembrance Lecture on Sunday in the Morgan Auditorium before an audience of roughly 60 community members. Kristallnacht, also known as the night of broken glass, in 1938 was a violent riot against Jews carried out by the Nazi Party‘s paramilitary forces.

The Campus Activities Board hosted the event with slam poetry duo Lane Shuler and Jonathan Clark from I.N.K. There was a range of musical and theatrical performances. The poems ranged from lighthearted to more serious in tone. Other performances consisted of an interactive approach.

Anthony Elizondo, assistant professor of educational counseling, spoke about “Impact of Spaces on Those Within Them: How Design and Decor can Impact the Therapeutic Environment,” Tuesday in the Lewis Center Classroom for an audience of about 20 La Verne community members. Elizondo’s presentation considered how a proper, more personalized environment, can be essential for the therapeutic setting, and conducive for the work being done in that environment.

Karina RodriguezStaff WriterNicholas Athey, assistant professor of sociology and criminology, discussed “Cannabis-related political discourse on Twitter : A Mixed-Methods Approach” Tuesday in the Lewis Center classroom before an audience of roughly 40 University community members. Cannabis, its use and misuse is a divisive topic of discussion, said Athey, whose scholarship focuses on drug policy. Athey said he used quantitative and qualitative research methods.
