After multiple attempts across the globe to create a new element, an international team of researchers led by Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, or Berkeley Lab, discovered a technique that could lead to the production of a new element, element 120, or E120. This development will add to Berkeley Lab’s record discovery of 16 out of 118 elements on the periodic table. If successful, E120 would fall on the eighth row of the periodic table and would be the heaviest element yet.

Eggy’s Juicery made its summer debut with a soft opening June 18, bringing an array of quick breakfast foods, such as fresh juices, paninis and acai bowls to Berkeley. The juicery is located in the same building as its sister restaurant, Eggy’s Neighborhood Kitchen, a breakfast spot on Shattuck Avenue. The juicery is in Unit F of the building, below Eggy’s Neighborhood Kitchen in Unit C. “We will offer refreshing, immune boosting, and quick meals,” said owner Benigno Sias in an email.

Millions of students enroll in college every year, but many don’t graduate. Only 62 percent of those starting college in 2017 completed their programs within six years. And the rate is not equal across the board. For those at community colleges, only around 40 percent earn a credential. For Black and Hispanic students, the rate was 43 and 50 percent respectively. Completion matters because students are more likely to realize the benefits that higher education can bring only when they have a degree.
