FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. - BC Hydro has reported another drop in employment at the Site C hydroelectric dam project. According to the latest employment numbers released by the utility, 1,578 people worked on the project during March of 2025, down slightly from the 1,604 reported in February. BC Hydro says this is part of a downward trend that's expected to continue as the project's fall completion date approaches.

North Peace Minor Baseball has posted on Facebook to report its equipment shed has burned down. FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. - A Fort St. John minor baseball league has suffered a fire this weekend. On April 27th, North Peace Minor Baseball posted on Facebook to report its equipment shed had burned down. It reportedly lost bases, umpire gear, chalk machines, pitching machines and other "miscellaneous maintenance gear" in the blaze, and all only one day before its season begins.

BC Wildfire Service will conduct a prescribed burn in the Flatbed trail area near Tumbler Ridge. TUMBLER RIDGE, B.C. - Prescribed burns will be conducted in the Tumbler Ridge area over the weekend. In an April 25th Facebook post, BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) reminded the public it is set to conduct a 2.6-hectare prescribed burn in the Flatbed trail area to reduce the buildup of combustible materials and mitigate the long-term wildfire risks.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. - The BC Energy Regulator (BCER) is beginning cleanup efforts at 53 newly-designated "orphan sites" in the Peace region. All 53 of the sites were previously owned by Erikson National Energy Inc., a company with assets in northern B.C. that entered financial insolvency proceedings in September of last year.
