Tyrone Kemper Jr. began racing go-karts at NOLA Motorsports Park in Avondale, Louisiana, when he was six years old, and the sport has turned into passion for the 12-year-old. He currently competes nationally against some of the best young drivers on the national kart racing circuit. Kemper is a New Orleans native who began racing for fun with the help of his dad. The UNO baseball team won three straight Southland tournament games entering Thursday's SLC championship series, but saw that winning streak come to an end against Houston Christian. Being down seven runs in Houston proved too much for the No. 8 seed UNO to overcome. The Privateers (28-25) rallied from a six-run deficit against Northwestern State on Saturday to advance to the championship series, but they were unable to recapture that magic in an 8-3 loss to the No. 5 seed Houston Christian.

UNO baseball has made a run in the Southland Conference Tournament and is now only two wins away from an NCAA regional berth. A best-of-three conference championship series awaits No. 8 seed UNO (28-24) this week against No. 5 seed Houston Christian (30-23). The Privateers were the lowest seed in Hammond last week but upset No. 1 seed Southeastern Louisiana in their first game and won twice against No. 4 seed Northwestern State to advance.
