American studio Diller Scofidio + Renfro has completed V&A East Storehouse, the publicly accessible working storage facility of the Victoria and Albert Museum in east London. Built as part of the East Bank cultural quarter in the Queen Elizabeth Park, the 16,000-square-metre facility houses 250,000 objects, 350,000 books and 1,000 archives, and is set to open to the public this weekend.

Berlin-based studio Kéré Architecture has designed the Thomas Sankara Mausoleum in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, to commemorate the country's former president who was assassinated in the 1980s. Built using locally-sourced laterite and clay bricks, the mausoleum forms the resting place of Thomas Sankara – a revolutionary figure recognised for his efforts in championing women's rights, environmental campaigns and economic independence in the country.

Lagos-based Oshinowo Studio has unveiled plans to add a glass war memorial to an Edwin Lutyens-designed plinth in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Situated in a courtyard overlooked by government buildings, the memorial was commissioned by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to commemorate members of the Sierra Leone Carrier Corps – men enlisted to transport supplies and materials – who died during world war one.

A suspended orb forms the centrepiece of the Netherlands Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, designed by Amsterdam studio RAU Architects and design studio Tellart to reference the country's connection to water and its use of renewable energy. Spanning 425 metres in honour of 425 years of Dutch-Japanese trade relations, the pavilion is built from a steel structure and fronted with rippling slats that rise to reveal entrances at its front.
