INTRODUCTIONMany insect species have the potential to transmit a wide range of pathogens to humans and animals, causing a variety of vector-borne diseases (VBDs). According to the World Health Organization (WHO), VBDs account for more than 17% of all infectious diseases, causing more than 700,000 deaths annually (1). Therefore, they pose a significant threat to global public and animal health and have substantial socioeconomic impacts.

Small animals with unique chemistry – the natural product chemistry of Collembola Covering up to September 2024Collembola, commonly known as springtails, are abundant and important members of soil ecosystems. Due to their small size and hidden life, not much is known about their secondary metabolites. This chemistry is remarkably different from that of insects, with which they share a common ancestor, although they diverged already around 450 mya.

AbstractDesensitisation of the mu-opioid receptor (MOR) is proposed to underlie the initiation of opioid analgesic tolerance and previous work has shown that agonist-induced phosphorylation of the MOR C-tail contributes to this desensitisation. Moreover, phosphorylation is important for β-arrestin recruitment to the receptor, and ligands of different efficacies induce distinct phosphorylation barcodes.

1 Introduction The low quantum efficiency of deep UV and red light emitting diodes (LEDs) based on III-nitride (III-N) materials is a well-known bottleneck toward creating efficient, commercially available LEDs in the 220–280 nm and 620–750 nm wavelength ranges.[1, 2] Efficient red LEDs are of particular interest for creating full color LED displays, including micro-LEDs for augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) applications.[2-4] In principle, (In,Ga)N-based LEDs can provide all...

Enantioselective synthesis of all stereoisomers of geosmin and of biosynthetically related natural products Synthetic routes to geosmin and its enantiomer are well established, but the enantioselective synthesis of stereoisomers of geosmin is unknown. Here a stereoselective synthesis of all stereoisomers of geosmin is reported, yielding all compounds in high enantiomeric purity.
