As of today — more than 100,000 Americans are waiting for an organ transplant according to data collected by a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. New technology being used right here in South Florida is increasing the amount of successful organ transplants.

In an exclusive report, CBS12 News is looking at safety inside our healthcare system for staff. CBS12 News has gotten a copy of a petition making the rounds, demanding that HCA Hospitals in Florida, which include HCA Florida Palms West Hospital and HCA Florida JFK Hospital, do more to address workplace violence and protect doctors, nurses, and other employees. As Stefany Valderrama reports, HCA leadership tells CBS12 News they’ve already taken those steps to make their facilities safer.
