The MetroHealth System on Wednesday released its response to former CEO Airica Steed, who is suing the hospital's board of trustees following her firing last August. MetroHealth reiterated its claims that Steed was fired due to poor job performance, stating Steed “failed to comply with her obligations, perform the job duties required of her as CEO, or meet the board’s legitimate expectations" in a complaint filed May 7 in U.S. District Court in response to Steed's lawsuit.

Ohio has seen two recent confirmed measles outbreaks in Ashtabula and Knox counties this year, leading public health officials and doctors to try to raise awareness about the disease and its vaccine. The 10 infected people in Ashtabula County all completed their isolation periods and are no longer considered contagious, the county health department said. The county has held a series of vaccination clinics, including one Monday at the Monroe Township Fire Department in Conneaut.

A Warren woman is suing the city of Warren and the hospital where she sought treatment before and after she suffered a miscarriage. Attorneys for Brittany Watts filed the suit Friday, a year after a grand jury declined to indict her on abuse of a corpse charges stemming from a miscarriage she suffered in September. The suit alleges that police and St. Joseph Warren Hospital staff conspired against Watts to have her arrested following the miscarriage.

Child fatalities within Cuyahoga County increased by 25% in 2023 compared to the previous year, a new report found. County leaders held a news conference Tuesday to discuss details of the report and present solutions for reducing the number of child deaths. The report, issued by the Cuyahoga County Child Fatality Review (CFR) Board, found that 190 children in Cuyahoga County died in 2023.

A for-profit, venture capital firm will pay $485 million for Akron-based Summa Health. Health Assurance Transformation Corporation (HATCo) and Summa finalized the deal Thursday, the two sides announced. Summa confirmed plans for the acquisition in January after signing a letter of intent on the deal. The two parties spent the months that followed under a due diligence period to firm up details of the acquisition and plans for the future.
