    The future of two closed hospitals in Warren remains unclear — and that’s nothing new for Trumbull County. The hospitals’ previous owner went bankrupt last year, and it looked like both facilities would close until a Michigan-based company acquired them and promised to keep them running. Now that company, too, has laid off workers and closed the hospitals down — temporarily, the company said in March.

    Ohio has seen two recent confirmed measles outbreaks in Ashtabula and Knox counties this year, leading public health officials and doctors to try to raise awareness about the disease and its vaccine. The 10 infected people in Ashtabula County all completed their isolation periods and are no longer considered contagious, the county health department said. The county has held a series of vaccination clinics, including one Monday at the Monroe Township Fire Department in Conneaut.

    Local health departments across Northeast Ohio say the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has rescinded funding for ongoing disease prevention, treatment and building projects. Health officials estimate the cuts amount to $11.4 billion in public health funding nationally. The Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees the CDC, explained the cuts in a statement.

    Cleveland residents are two to three times more likely to report having unmet basic needs — like job and food insecurity — than other Ohioans, according to a citywide health survey released Monday. The survey of 1,497 Cleveland adults, conducted by Case Western Reserve University researchers, also found city residents suffer from high rates of depression and are more likely to forgo medical care because of costs, even when insured, compared with their state and national counterparts.
