The MetroHealth System on Wednesday released its response to former CEO Airica Steed, who is suing the hospital's board of trustees following her firing last August. MetroHealth reiterated its claims that Steed was fired due to poor job performance, stating Steed “failed to comply with her obligations, perform the job duties required of her as CEO, or meet the board’s legitimate expectations" in a complaint filed May 7 in U.S. District Court in response to Steed's lawsuit.

Cleveland Clinic’s main campus is ranked the fifth worst health system in the U.S. for community spending compared to tax breaks, according to a new report by a national think tank. The report found 76% of Ohio's private nonprofit hospitals receive more in tax benefits than they spend on community investments. The Lown Institute calculated the Clinic had a $207 million deficit in property tax benefits compared with spending on community benefits, such as charity care and health screenings.

The future of two closed hospitals in Warren remains unclear — and that’s nothing new for Trumbull County. The hospitals’ previous owner went bankrupt last year, and it looked like both facilities would close until a Michigan-based company acquired them and promised to keep them running. Now that company, too, has laid off workers and closed the hospitals down — temporarily, the company said in March.

Ohio has seen two recent confirmed measles outbreaks in Ashtabula and Knox counties this year, leading public health officials and doctors to try to raise awareness about the disease and its vaccine. The 10 infected people in Ashtabula County all completed their isolation periods and are no longer considered contagious, the county health department said. The county has held a series of vaccination clinics, including one Monday at the Monroe Township Fire Department in Conneaut.
