Wout van Aert admitted that Remco Evenepoel was simply stronger and faster in the final hour of De Brabantse Pijl, and that he lacked the speed and power to match Evenepoel's determination and long sprint after the climb to Overijse. Van Aert has still to win a race in 2025 and has struggled to be competitive in the cobbled Classics, finishing fourth at the Tour of Flanders and at Paris-Roubaix.

Georg Zimmermann (Intermarché-Wanty) won the Giro d'Abruzzo stage race after defending the leader's jersey during the hilly fourth stage from Corropoli to Isola del Gran Sasso deep in the Apennine mountains. David de la Cruz (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team) was second overall, at just 11 seconds, with Pablo Torres (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) third at 18 seconds.

Elisa Longo Borghini (UAE Team ADQ) took a second consecutive victory at the De Brabantse Pijl-La Flèche Brabançonne, confirming she has recovered from the concussion she suffered during the Tour of Flanders. The Italian national champion rode an aggressive race and attacked alone on the Moskesstraat climb with 11km to race. She opened a 25-second gap and the chasers failed to close the gap on the successive Holstheide climb and the rise to the finish line.

Tadej Pogačar switches from the cobbles to the Ardennes côtes and climbs this weekend, with Sunday's Amstel Gold Race his goal before Wednesday's La Flèche Wallonne and then next Sunday's Liège-Bastogne-Liège. The world champion has kept a low profile as he recovered from the pain of riding Paris-Roubaix and his defeat to Mathieu van der Poel but will lead UAE Team Emirates-XRG in the Limburg region of the Netherlands.
