Westminster and Princeton fire departments have partnered to manage the increased number of hiker emergencies on Wachusett Mountain. First responders are testing a single-wheel litter to decrease rescuer fatigue and improve patient comfort during mountain rescues. Hikers are advised to wear appropriate clothing and footwear and to call for help immediately if injured, rather than attempting to descend the mountain.

We may still be a few weeks away from the official beginning of summer according to the calendar but unofficially it is another story. Following the ceremonies, parades and cookouts on Memorial Day weekend, it’s time to start having some summer fun with friends and family. For many residents, the hot weather season means outdoor picnics, playing catch with the dog, or buying frozen treats from an ice cream truck.
