After passing the halfway point in 1 hour, 4 minutes, 57 seconds, Bennie crossed the finish line at the Boston Public Library in 2:11:46, good for 18th on April 21. He finished sixth among U.S. runners. John Korir of Kenya pulled away from the pack in the 20th mile and breezed to victory in 2:04:45, winning by 19 seconds.

The route passes a stone foundation, all that's left of a farmhouse. Hadwen would appreciate the foot traffic. He, too, enjoyed the woods of Worcester. The trail is a main draw of Hadwen Arboretum, a 26-acre, tree-filled parcel at Lovell and May streets, bounded by houses. It was once part of Hadwen's Magnolia Farm.
