    OXFORD - Police charged an Oxford man with animal cruelty after 24 dogs were seized from his home Tuesday. Officials said the dogs were in bad shape and living in deplorable conditions. John Artese, 59, of Little Punkup Road, faces one misdemeanor charge after Oxford police, as well as state and local animal control officers responded to the home Tuesday morning.

    WOLCOTT - An estimated 8,000 people gathered this past weekend at the Woodtick Recreational Area to visit a traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, an event two years in the making, and one that brought emotion and reflection to this small town. The replica, known as "The Wall that Heals," is a 3/5 scale of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C., standing six-feet tall at the center and covering nearly the length of a football field from end-to end.

    WATERBURY - A congregation gathered at the Grace Baptist Church on Wednesday night to pray for peace, healing and strength in the wake of Tuesday's shooting inside the Brass Mill Center mall that injured five people and shocked the community. "I know the pain that our community is going through right now," the Rev. Kristopher Reese told the 50 or so in attendance at the Kingsbury Street church. "Yesterday was heartbreaking, but thanks be to God that no lives were lost.
