KUVO Music Director Kim Berry is attending this year’s Jazz Congress at Lincoln Center in New York, a real gathering of the jazz tribe. Immediately following the Congress, Allan Harris is hosting a “Jazz Marathon ‘ 2 Great Days of Jazz” on January 11 and 12 at the New York Midtown Hilton.

Leave it to a New York City kid to make it in Denver. After running a food truck around town for a few years, Brian Murphy decided to settle down with a brick-and-mortar location to ply his big city style sandwiches. Hold the cigs and the soda pop – Big Apple Bodega is a sit-down/carry-out spot on South Broadway (one block south of Evans) that specializes in the new big thing, the Chopped Cheese sandwich. “It’s a New York City version of the Philly Cheesesteak, but it’s different,” said Murphy.

This year on Colorado Gives Day (Tuesday, December 10, 2024), KUVO celebrates music education by presenting three student bands performing live and on the air throughout the day. At noon, it’s the Century Middle School Jazz Ensemble from Thornton, directed by Jared Crump-Bertram. At 3 p.m., you’ll hear the Colorado State University Jazz Ensemble, directed by Gabriel Santiago and Wil Swindler. At 7 p.m., it’s the C C J A Jazz Arts Messengers, directed by Eric Gunnison.
