KUVO-FM (Denver, CO)
KUVO (89.3 FM) is a radio station in the United States that focuses primarily on jazz music, operating under a public radio format. Based in Denver, Colorado, KUVO started broadcasting on August 29, 1985. The station's programming mainly features jazz, blues, and Latin jazz, but it also showcases a variety of other music styles, including acid jazz, funk, gospel, rhythm and blues, and salsa. Additionally, KUVO airs select National Public Radio (NPR) programs and other syndicated shows, such as Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz, Riverwalk Jazz with Jim Cullum, Jazz from Lincoln Center hosted by Wynton Marsalis, and Dee Dee Bridgewater's Jazz Set. The station boasts its own performance studio, where it occasionally hosts live performances and interviews with both local and national artists. KUVO is funded through listener donations and does not air corporate advertisements.

After running a food truck around town for a few years, Brian Murphy decided to settle down with a brick-and-mortar location to ply his big city style sandwiches. Hold the cigs and the soda pop – Big Apple Bodega is a sit-down/carry-out spot on South Broadway (one block south of Evans) that specializes in the new big thing, the Chopped Cheese sandwich. “It’s a New York City version of the Philly Cheesesteak, but it’s different,” said Murphy.

Tight, harmony vocals are on tap for this week’s Vinyl Vault when we’ll hear some tracks from the Pointer Sisters’ album Steppin’. The album was the sisters’ third studio album and was released in 1975 on ABC Blue Thumb Records. The number of sisters in the band has varied over the years. Steppin’ was recorded when four sisters were in the group: Anita, Ruth, Bonnie and June. Two years later, Bonnie left the group for a solo career but the others continued as a trio.
