Remembered for his infinite capacity for friendship and his bear-hug embrace of family - as well as being the guy who put the pun in sports punditry - longtime Atlanta Journal-Constitution writer Jack Wilkinson, 74, died June 1 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Editor’s note: Nov. 2 is the three-year anniversary of the Braves clinching the 2021 World Series championship with a Game 6 win over the Astros in Houston. The AJC looks back on that moment in Braves history. The cold side of baseball is told in numbers. Alone among participants in an event that tracks back to 1903, Freddie Freeman has homered in six consecutive World Series games. The first two came in 2021, when he was a Brave. They were his last acts as a Brave. That Freeman’s four latest Fall Classic clouts have come for a different team leaves us both excited and wistful. It’s great to see the world’s nicest guy doing something never done. It’s a tad less great to see him do it as a Dodger.

HAMPTON – Joey Logano was a 9-year-old leadfoot in training the first time he saw the Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1999. He remembers that moment every time he drives onto the property – and drives around it at a ridiculous pace, sometimes winning wild races. It's a story he tells with a big, wide smile: "I have more memories at this racetrack than anywhere I've ever been," he said Sunday, after winning the Quaker State 400 and getting a big leg up on NASCAR's playoffs.
