    The 17th annual Holiday Food Drive, which began Nov. 1 and ended Nov. 27, raised the equivalent of 14,556 pounds of food for the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry. That was contained in 1,620 packaged grocery bags, which are designed to stock the shelves to serve the more than 1,500 families in a given week the pantry serves. That figure is an increase of about 200 families that took place just in the past few months, pantry officials said.

    The Aurora City Council will vote Tuesday on an addendum to the contract with HR Green, Inc. for roadwork on Farnsworth Avenue, Bilter Road and Church Road in the city. Aldermen will vote on a $256,291 addendum to the HR Green contract which already is about $1.9 million for work in the area, much of it connected to the new Hollywood Casino-Aurora resort project.

    The Aurora City Council is set to vote on a contract for a pilot program to give kindergarten students in the city a $50 savings account to go toward education after high school. Known as Aurora Promise, the program is based on a similar one that has been going on in San Francisco for a number of years. There are 128 similar programs in 38 states across the country, serving about five million children, Aurora officials said. This program would be the first in Illinois.

    The Aurora City Council Tuesday night approved a $759.6 million city budget for 2025, almost $200 million higher than last year’s budget. It is the largest city budget ever. While the overall budget is higher, it also is based on an expected large jump in revenue for 2025, up to $633.4 million. The rest of the money for the budget will come from $126.2 million in project carryovers and revenue from 2024 and other prior year budgets.
