BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — New numbers have been released by the State, which are giving us an idea of student’s academic performance here in North Dakota. The numbers are for last year from “Insights North Dakota”. The state looked at several areas, including enrollment numbers, and student proficiency in two key areas. One area is English, Language, and Arts, and the other is Math.

EVERGREEN, Colo. — As someone who works in the Denver metro but lives in the mountains, Nancy Harrington knows the relief from the heat that comes with a short trip up Interstate 70. “I have a little bit of both worlds,” said Harrington. She’s one of several paddle boarders who spent the day on Evergreen Lake, staying out of Denver’s triple-digit temperatures. “We have so many people that are coming and utilizing the lake,” she said.

DENVER — With three days of 100-degree heat anticipated in Colorado, Sarah Garcia and her 1-year-old son Jonathan are finding every reason to cool off. “We’re here for a play date,” said Garcia as they pulled up to Central Park’s splash pad in Denver. Before spending any time in the sun, Garcia is taking every precaution with her little one. “We have baby-safe sunscreen, hat, his little water outfit. I know it's hard to see him in a long-sleeve, but it's best for him,” explained Garcia.

DENVER — With the extreme heat building here in Colorado, fire officials are keeping a close eye on the fire conditions around the state. And while we're not expecting strong, gusty winds into the weekend, the fire danger is still a big concern as a prolonged heat wave arrives here in Colorado. "The Marshall Fire is fresh in our memories," said Janette Feijoo of Westminster.
