If you can read this, you’re probably old enough to remember when sports fans in Oakland and the East Bay had three proud championship professional franchises sports to claim as their own. As of today, there are zero. Hayden Birdsong‘s final start of his rookie campaign was a trying effort, as the San Francisco Giants fell short to the St. Louis Cardinals with a 6-1 loss to close out the regular season at Oracle Park Sunday afternoon. San Francisco finished with a record of 80-82, the third-straight season without a playoff berth. With just one postseason appearance in eight years, the Giants organization continues a run generated from pure mediocrity.

Chances are that Muni passengers over the last 18 months have ridden on a 40-foot battery-electric bus in San Francisco on routes such as the 9-San Bruno or 44-O’Shaughnessy. The buses under test have featured sliding doors and a unique livery – like a massive lightning bolt – on the outside of the bus.
L-Taraval reconnects western neighborhoods with refreshed rail service

The L-Taraval Muni Metro rail line is finally returning to the subway and the streets Saturday morning, after years of construction replaced aging underground utilities, built new boarding islands, and replaced worn out rails. Trains will run every 10 minutes on weekdays and every 15 minutes on weekends between the zoo and Embarcadero station. The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency will discontinue L bus service as rail service returns.

A few days ago, Heliot Ramos showed interest in becoming the first right-handed hitter in Oracle Park’s 25-year history to crush a homer into McCovey Cove. After 104 “splash hits,” all from lefties, the Giants left fielder achieved his goal with ease by demolishing a clutch, game-tying no-doubter the opposite way in the ninth. Few have come close, like Buster Posey‘s last professional homer in the 2021 National League Division Series, but none have accomplished the feat until now.

It’s been another season of mediocrity for the San Francisco Giants and their incoherent struggles could lead to the termination of Farhan Zaidi, the club’s president of baseball operations since 2019. The combination of increased public pressure and the organization’s current gridlock status — the Giants have made the playoffs just once under Zaidi and this is the end of year six — has created a difficult situation for ownership.

Reporting from CITY HALLSan Francisco leaders are forming a working group focused on ways to fund and cut spending at the financially strapped Municipal Transportation Agency. The SFMTA plans to utilize the working group to address projected deficits ranging from $239 million to to $322 million in the 2026 and 2027 fiscal years, according to a financial update to the SFMTA board of directors by Chief Financial Officer Bree Mawhorter.
