The Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT) has criticised a proposal to change how council mayors are elected. Currently under the Local Government Act, councils decide prior to elections whether voters elect their mayor, or whether councillors appoint a mayor at their first meeting. But a potential amendment to the act proposes that all NT councils elect their mayor, removing the option for voters to elect their mayor directly.

Alice Springs businesses say they will voluntarily maintain a minimum alcohol price, despite the Northern Territory government's plan to scrap a law that mandates it. In 2018, the previous Labor government introduced an alcohol "floor price" that banned sales below $1.30 per standard drink, specifically to target cheap wine.

Taxi drivers have allegedly been targeted by a group of young offenders in a stolen ute in Alice Springs, where a taxi was rammed and its driver robbed twice in the space of 30 minutes early on Friday. Northern Territory Police say a Ford Ranger was stolen from a house in Larapinta at about 10pm on Thursday, which was then used to ram three taxis across town.
