Alice Springs businesses say they will voluntarily maintain a minimum alcohol price, despite the Northern Territory government's plan to scrap a law that mandates it. In 2018, the previous Labor government introduced an alcohol "floor price" that banned sales below $1.30 per standard drink, specifically to target cheap wine.

Taxi drivers have allegedly been targeted by a group of young offenders in a stolen ute in Alice Springs, where a taxi was rammed and its driver robbed twice in the space of 30 minutes early on Friday. Northern Territory Police say a Ford Ranger was stolen from a house in Larapinta at about 10pm on Thursday, which was then used to ram three taxis across town.

Northern Territory Police are on the hunt for copper thieves stripping wire from Alice Springs telecommunications pits to sell on the black market. Police have received several reports since April of copper wire being stolen from two telecommunication pits between The Gap and Alice Springs Airport, disrupting services. It is alleged hundreds of metres of copper wire have been pulled out, likely using a "large vehicle". Police believe the wire is subsequently cut into smaller segments for sale.
