India, May 12 -- The 22 border check posts, that had become a breeding ground of corruption, will be closed soon. The posts are meant to check tax evasion and illegal transportation of goods between states. Transport minister Pratap Sarnaik on Sunday said that the decision was based on a report by the transport commissioner and on the lines of the directives issued by the central government.

India, May 12 -- Five days after the Supreme Court directed the State Election Commission (SEC) to hold the elections to 687 local bodies in the next four months and notify the process in four weeks, the poll body has not started the process for want of a written order from the court. The SC's oral directives have led to confusion on a slew of issues, including the OBC quota and the delimitation exercise (revision in the number of wards).
