    Columbus is still predicted to be a hot housing market in 2025 – but not as hot as 2024. After ranking at No. 3 on Zillow's list of the hottest housing markets for 2024, Columbus has dropped out of the top 10 in 2025. Columbus fell nine spots to No. 12 on Zillow's prediction for the hottest housing markets of 2025. Two other Ohio cities tumbled out of the top 10 as well. From its No. 2 ranking in 2024, Cincinnati also was down nine spots to No. 11 and Cleveland fell six spots to No. 14 from No. 8.

    Another major retailer is kicking off the new year by announcing nationwide store closures. Macy's Inc. Thursday announced it will close 66 locations nationwide. The closures are the second wave in a previously announced 150 stores the retailer plans to shutter by the end of 2026. Approximately 50 stores were closed in 2024. Two stores in Ohio made the list for 2025: an anchor store at the Mall at Fairfield Commons in the Dayton suburb of Beavercreek and at the Franklin Park Mall in Toledo.

    Job cuts and layoffs eliminated more than 3,400 positions across Central Ohio in 2024. A significant portion of this year's job cuts were related to struggles in retail from cuts at Columbus-based retailers that filed for bankruptcy, including Express and Big Lots, to the third-party providers that support the industry.     Locally based retailer American Freight announced additional layoffs at its Central Ohio headquarters in a WARN notice filed with the state. This round will impact 50 employees at its facility at 109 Innovation Ct. in Delaware. Positions will be eliminated as of March 1. The cuts include several director and manager positions. The retailer previously announced layoffs on Dec. 2 impacting 62 employees expected to depart the company as of Feb. 3.
