NORWALK, Conn. — The Norwalk Police Emerald Society has announced that Jeanine Chakar will serve as the Grand Marshal for the 2025 Norwalk St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The parade will occur on March 8, stepping off from Veteran’s Park and concluding at the Guinness Tent at O’Neill’s Pub & Restaurant in South Norwalk. Chakar, a Norwalk resident since 2009, has deep Irish roots and a lifelong love for St. Patrick’s Day traditions.

NORWALK, Conn. — U.S. Rep. Jim Himes joined Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling, State Sen. Bob Duff, and other local officials Friday morning to break ground on the long-anticipated Norwalk Community Recreation Center. The facility, a joint effort between the City of Norwalk and the Riverbrook YMCA, will offer a range of programs for residents, including youth activities. The project was made possible in part by $2 million in federal community project funding secured by Himes in the Fiscal Year 2023.

NORWALK, Conn. — The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk has announced the passing of Leila, a 37-year-old harbor seal who served as a longtime ambassador for marine conservation. Leila died on Thursday, Feb. 13, following a recent age-related decline in health. At 37, she surpassed the average life expectancy of 25 years for harbor seals in human care, reflecting the dedicated attention the aquarium’s Animal Husbandry team provided.
