The Pune Forest Department, which has undertaken a major anti-encroachment drive at Sinhagad Fort from May 29, has said that the fort will be closed to visitors for two more days till June 4. The Forest Department had earlier notified closure of the fort till Monday. The Government of Maharashtra had in January passed a resolution that illegal structures and encroachments on the demarcated areas of historic forts in the state be removed.

On February 15, 2021, a 25-year-old labourer from a remote village in the hilly region of the Pune district left home for work at around 9 am. The labourer was given the work to chop some large logs of wood next to a dam. Back home were his wife and three children — two daughters aged three and two, and a two-month-old son. His mother had gone to a nearby reservoir to catch fish to be sold in the local market.

WITH THE background score of the emotional and nostalgic Scottish tune of Auld Lang Syne and the majestic backdrop of the Sahyadri hills, the cadets from the landmark 148th course of the NDA, including first batch of 17 female cadets, marched past Quarterdeck flag mast on the Khetrapal Ground, marking the end the of their three-year challenging training. A total of 336 cadets including 17 female cadets passed out of the academy, according to the NDA.

Cadet Swati Dusad said, “it is a historic moment for all of us and this is an outcome of dedicated work put in by innumerable people including NDA officers, faculty, support staff. And it is not just our course, even before we came here, there were many women officers, who wanted this to happen. There is a long battle that was fought for us to reach here and it will be fought even in future.
