While some IPS graduates will be heading to college in the fall, others have different career plans. John Hernandez graduated from Arsenal Tech High School this week. He’s been enrolled in the school’s automotive program since he moved to Indianapolis a little over two years ago.

    May 7, 2025 Nonprofits in Indianapolis can now apply for energy assistance from the Office of Sustainability. Thriving Nonprofits is a new initiative for the agency, funded by The Mckinney Foundation. Up to 15 nonprofits can apply for assistance to help decrease their energy bills. That includes projects like fixing HVAC or insulation in buildings. After being accepted into the program, the office will conduct an energy assessment of the building and analyze what needs done.

    May 7, 2025 Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett will chair a new board called the Indianapolis Local Education Alliance, or ILEA, which aims to improve how the city’s public and charter schools share facilities, transportation and other resources. The alliance was created through a new state law requiring Indianapolis Public Schools to collaborate with the mayor’s office and other stakeholders on a long-term plan for managing school buildings and transportation services.

    The Indianapolis Charter School Board this week approved expansion plans for two existing charter schools and advanced a proposal for a new law-themed charter school. The board approved charter school replication applications from Victory College Prep and Indiana Math and Science Academy. IMSA plans to expand with a new campus on the Near Westside in the Haughville neighborhood.
