A Charlotte telecommunications firm has exceeded its fiber build-out target ahead of schedule and is now upping its expansion goal. Brightspeed announced its multistate expansion after launching in 2022. Those plans included bringing its internet services to more than 2 million homes and businesses across its 20-state footprint by 2027. Last week, the company said it has already met that target. The milestone comes months after exceeding its 2024 network expansion goal.

As global trade tensions continue to cast a shadow over economic forecasts, some middle-market companies in the Carolinas are taking a cautious approach to growth. Many businesses are hesitating to invest in new ventures due to the potential financial impact of changing tariffs, said Tara Coffey, JPMorgan Chase & Co.'s head of middle-market banking for the Carolinas. She is based in Charlotte. "We're not seeing folks making really large investments right now," Coffey told CBJ.
