DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - It’s smelt season in the Twin Ports and you can catch some this Sunday as they jump the shore onto land. That’s because it’s time for the 12th annual Magic Smelt Parade on the Lakewalk in Duluth. Hundreds of Northlanders gather in their best smelt-themed, glistening silver clothes, emulating the tiny fish commonly caught this time of year on the shores of Lake Superior. To help celebrate, there’s a brass band and even a smelt queen, which is a 15-foot long puppet.

DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Numerous educational projects throughout the Duluth school district will move forward thanks to some timely grants. More than $27,000 will be distributed to these innovative initiatives. These grants will fund a wide range of initiatives designed to enhance student learning and engagement. The money comes from the Duluth Public Schools Fund. It was established in 1985 and is administered by the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation.
