Organisers of Perth's Sculpture by the Sea event announced on Tuesday a shortfall in federal funding would stop the event from going ahead next March, after arts agency Creative Australia declined to back it. On Friday, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced a $1.5 million package to revive the event. Organisers welcomed the decision, but have said it is too late for the event to be staged in 2025.

Siosifa Kolomatoagi Faiva was one of three men charged after half a tonne of cocaine was seized at a property in Kalbarri last year. The arrest was made after a group retrieved the drugs from waters off WA's coast, with the cocaine estimated to be worth more than $250 million. Faiva has been sentenced to 22 years in jail, and must serve 14 years before he is eligible for parole.
