A man has been allegedly attacked with an axe, eight people have been arrested and additional police have been deployed after a violent 24 hours in Western Australia's far north. Police said a 27-year-old man suffered serious injuries after he was allegedly attacked by six people in the Kimberley town of Halls Creek, with one of the assailants allegedly striking the victim with an axe.

An alleged vigilante road rage incident in Western Australia's north has led to the arrests of three people and a power outage that impacted more than 2,000 Horizon Power customers. Broome police allege Richard John Oliver, 31, and Lillian Leanne Bin Kali, 32, broke into a home in the suburb of Cable Beach about 2:30pm on Saturday. It's alleged the pair stole two mobile phones and other personal items, before being "disturbed" by two male occupants of the house, both aged in their twenties.

Twenty Indonesian men who were apprehended while fishing illegally in waters off Western Australia's north have been sentenced in a Northern Territory court. The ABC reported earlier this month that a traditional owner and tour operator had led Australian Border Force (ABF) officials to four foreign fishing vessels in the mangroves of Kuri Bay, about 220km north of Derby.
