Share Dallas Stars assistant Misha Donskov perhaps? Or Toronto Maple Leafs assistant and former Bruin Marc Savard? While we know it won’t be Denver coach David Carle making the jump from the NCAAs, Sweeney does seem ready to break the NHL mold of recycling coaches, less interested in the likes of Peter Laviolette or John Tortorella and more in finding a new voice.

A few things I care about . . . They also need a coach, and it was amid the lottery disappointment that general manager Don Sweeney spoke to reporters with an update that makes it seem this search isn’t ending any time soon. That’s fine, with Sweeney maintaining his deliberate, no-rush approach that includes in-house candidates Joe Sacco and Jay Leach but also targets at least one candidate still involved in the playoffs. Dallas Stars assistant Misha Donskov perhaps?

Imagine if Bill Belichick the Patriots coach were the boss of Bill Belichick the North Carolina coach. The first would be disgusted by the second. He’d be annoyed. Livid. Angry. That guy we knew for decades in New England? For him, all this distraction from personal, off-the-field issues would be unacceptable. For the first Mr. Belichick, the second Mr. Belichick’s recent behavior would be unbefitting for a person devoted to his football team. Unbecoming for the leader of a football program.

Two incidents in recent days, an ugly fan taunt to Jarren Duran and a prank call to NFL draft prospect Shedeur Sanders, crossed the line of acceptable behavior in sports. Rooted in cruelty, soaked in schadenfreude, and serving no discernible purpose other than to make someone feel bad about themselves, they deserve to be called out. So much meanness. Make it stop.

The Bruins’ brain trust sat three abreast at a table inside TD Garden’s Legends suite Wednesday morning, with team president Cam Neely centered between his boss, CEO Charlie Jacobs, and his friend/employee, general manager Don Sweeney. The men stayed that way for the duration of a tense, nearly hourlong end-of-season autopsy of this dreadful season. By the time it was over, they might as well have been in a corner.
