Slowing Cognitive Decline in Major Depressive Disorder and Mild Cognitive Impairment: A Randomized Clinical Trial Podcast (21:44) 0:00 / 0:00 Key Points Question Does cognitive remediation (CR) plus transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) slow cognitive decline in older adults with remitted major depressive disorder (rMDD) or mild cognitive impairment (MCI)? Findings In this randomized clinical trial including 375 participants with rMDD or MCI, those randomized to receive active CR...

AbstractWhether individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and a history of major depressive disorder (MDD) are at a higher risk for cognitive decline than those with MCI alone is still not clear. Previous work suggests that a reduction in prefrontal cortical theta phase-gamma amplitude coupling (TGC) is an early marker of cognitive impairment.

AbstractMost patients with late-life depression (LLD) have cognitive impairment, and at least one-third meet diagnostic criteria for mild cognitive impairment (MCI), a prodrome to Alzheimer’s dementia (AD) and other neurodegenerative diseases. However, the mechanisms linking LLD and MCI, and brain alterations underlying impaired cognition in LLD and LLD + MCI remain poorly understood.
