Share HAMPTON, Va. — Four people were injured and all 20 residents were displaced in a large-scale condo fire in Hampton Friday afternoon, according to the Hampton Division of Fire & Rescue. The fire started in a six-unit condo community near Island Cove Court around 12:26 p.m., according to Hampton Battalion Chief Anthony Chittum. When crews arrived to the two-alarm blaze, heavy smoke could be seen from the front of the building while heavy fire could be seen from the back.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A man was shot and killed on 35th Street in Newport News on Friday. Police say they were called to the 800 block of the street around 3:15 p.m. for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital, but by 4:39 p.m., he had succumbed to his injuries. Police say there is no suspect information at this time, but detectives and forensics are on the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.

SUFFOLK, Va. — Suffolk Fire & Rescue were alerted to a fire alarm going off at Creekside Elementary School today, which turned out to be caused by a blaze in a custodial closet. Firefighters were called to the school on Bennetts Creek Park Road around 6 p.m. on Thursday. When they arrived, the alarm was still sounding and there was visible smoke in the building. As additional firefighters were responding, a fire was discovered in a custodial closet that was next to a set of restrooms.

SUFFOLK, Va. — Suffolk police have arrested a man in connection to a March shooting incident on King's Fork Road. Police say on March 5, they were called to the 300 block of the street after they received a report of two vehicles racing, and later, a report of shots being fired. Shortly after the report, one of the cars wrecked in the nearby woods. The person who was in the wrecked car was taken to the hospital at the time for injuries sustained from the crash.
