    NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk police are continuing to investigate a crash that sent one person to the hospital with "life-threatening" injuries. Police said around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, a crash occurred at Helmick Street and Hampton Boulevard. The crash involved a motorcycle, police said, and one person involved was taken to the hospital with injuries police called life-threatening.

    The school is named after Confederate General John B. Magruder. YORKTOWN, Va. — The York County School Board will discuss changing the name of Magruder Elementary at their work session on Monday. The school is named after a general of the Confederacy, John B. Magruder. Several community members have requested the name be changed for this reason. The meeting will be held Monday night at 6 p.m. at 301 Main Street in Yorktown.

    NORFOLK, Va. — A 19-year-old Norfolk man has pleaded guilty to a string of armed robberies at convenience stores and restaurants across the city for nearly two months. Jeovany Rodriguez admitted in Norfolk Circuit Court on April 30 to six armed robberies and one attempted robbery committed between December 2024 and January 2025. Surveillance footage from each scene showed Rodriguez wearing a ski mask and brandishing what appeared to be an AR-style rifle — later identified as an air rifle.

    PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Portsmouth police were called to the first block of Connor Place Wednesday evening after receiving a report of a shooting. Connor Place is just off of George Washington Highway, by the Williams Court II shopping center. When officers arrived around 8:20 p.m., they found a man suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. Police haven't released any suspect information. This is a developing story.
