POCATELLO — The plunge into Idaho’s sizzling summer is set to begin for many local residents when the Poky Paddle returns for its sixth year on June 13. The annual free event invites area residents and visitors to bring their paddle boards, inner tubes and kayaks to float the Portneuf River and enjoy an evening of music, fresh food, ice cold beer and a variety of vendors.

POCATELLO — The Pine Ridge Mall redevelopment project is now underway as construction crews prepare to transform the complex into an outdoor shopping venue. The enclosed shopping mall first opened in 1981 in Chubbuck and was a brick-and-mortar merchandise staple of the community for decades. After months of preparation that included notices to current and former tenants that a redevelopment project was taking place, the Pine Ridge Mall has begun its transformation into an open-air shopping center.

POCATELLO — After reviewing 17 applications and interviewing six finalists, Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad has nominated local resident Dakota Bates to fill the vacancy on the City Council. The opening was created when Josh Mansfield resigned from the council in April to attend law school at Brigham Young University. Blad narrowed the field from 17 initial applicants to six before selecting Bates for the nomination last week.

About 1,000 students graduated from each of School District 25’s four high schools over the past two days, but you could almost say that number should include one more name. At least that’s what the best friend of Highland High School’s William “Will” Kosmicki would say if he could speak. Not only were students highlighted in Highland’s yearbook this year, but so was Kosmicki’s English cream golden retriever Solomon.

POCATELLO — The Pocatello High School striker who scored the final goal in the state championship game this past October has committed to Gillette Community College. Lexi Wells has been playing soccer since she was 6, growing in the sport until her freshman year when she made the Pocatello High School varsity team. She became an integral part of the program, utilizing her speed, ball control and goal scoring ability to great effect.
