OLANTA, S.C. —A 20-year-old Olanta man is facing felony charges after allegedly striking another person in the face with an axe during a late-night assault, the Florence County Sheriff’s Office said Monday. Omar D’Andre Wilson is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Deputies responded to a call around 11:30 p.m. Thursday regarding an assault at home near Olanta.

In the parking lot across the street from Central United Methodist Church, hammers clinked, sawdust swirled and laughter rang out as volunteers came together to construct wooden bed frames for children who have gone without a proper place to sleep.
