UPDATED STORY: Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzales reported Tuesday morning, at 5:40 a.m., that the Harris County Sheriff's Office SWAT team, along with other HCSO units and the U.S. Marshal's Violent Offender Task Force, successfully apprehended escapee Scott Evan Shepple at the Green Chase Inn, located at 9797 North Freeway. The operation was carried out without incident, and all officers involved are safe.

GRIMES COUNTY, Texas (KRHD) — A Grimes County Jail inmate has escaped after being transferred to a behavioral hospital in Houston. The Grimes County Sheriff's Office said Scott Evan Shepple was last seen at the Cypress Creek Behavioral Hospital in Houston around 8:45 a.m. on Monday. Shepple was transferred to the hospital from the Grimes County Jail, where he's been in custody since Dec. 4, 2024, for several charges, including sexual assault, resisting arrest and assaulting a peace officer.

WACO, Texas (KXXV) — An 18-wheeler caught fire late Sunday night on I-35 southbound near the 330A exit in Waco. Crews from the Robinson Volunteer Fire Department and Waco Fire Department responded at 9:13 p.m. to the large commercial vehicle fire on the main lanes of the freeway. RVFD confirmed that the fire was out at 10:40 p.m. and no injuries were reported.

KILLEEN, Texas (KXXV) — The Killeen Police Department is investigating a homicide after initially responding for a welfare check at a residence in the 3300 block of Lakecrest Drive. Killeen Police said officers found a 37-year-old woman with multiple gunshot wounds around 7:16 p.m. Police also found two children inside the residence, unaware of what happened and are safe. Detectives with the Robbery-Homicide Unit got an arrest warrant for the victim's spouse, 42-year-old John Mwangi.
