A new poll finds that most Latino voters in New Jersey are opposed to President Donald Trump’s hardline immigration agenda, challenging the post-2024 election narrative that the community is shifting rightward. The survey, conducted in late spring by Make the Road New Jersey and Data for Progress, shows 64% of Latino voters disapprove of Trump’s handling of immigration—with even higher opposition among women (72%) and voters over 45 (67%).

Eighteen-wheeler trucks drive by and kick up gray slated flecks of dust, stinging one’s eyes and leaving a harsh burning sensation in one’s lungs. It is amongst this polluted cacophony that the privately run immigration detention center, Delaney Hall, is situated.

The Democrats who lost their party’s nomination for governor to Rep. Mikie Sherrill on Tuesday said they will fight to unite the party and keep the governorship in Democrats’ hands in November. Newark Mayor Ras Baraka told supporters at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark that Democrats have to make sure Sherrill’s November opponent, Republican former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, “does not win.” Initial results show Baraka coming in second place, about 100,000 votes behind Sherrill.
