Stunt driving charge laid after driver on Hwy. 417 speeds away from traffic stop

Ontario Provincial Police say a driver who was pulled over on Highway 417 Friday was immediately pulled over a second time after peeling away from the first traffic stop. An officer first pulled the driver over near Anderson Road for speeding, the OPP said. “After a discussion and a warning about speeds, the officer issued the driver for having an obstructed licence plate,” police said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. But it wouldn’t be long before that driver was pulled over a second time.

Perry grew up in Ottawa before finding international stardom on the TV series “Friends.” He died in 2023 following challenges with addictions, something he had worked to help others overcome.
Minor injuries reported in collision between car and school bus

Ottawa paramedics say two people were transported to hospital in stable condition after a collision between a car and a school bus in rural south Ottawa Friday morning. It happened at around 7:30 a.m. on Old Prescott Road, near Stagecoach Road, paramedic spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps said. A man in the car was taken to hospital, as was a teenage girl on the bus. A teenage boy was assessed at the scene and released.

Ontario Provincial Police have announced arson charges in connection with a house fire in Rockland, east of Ottawa, that was caught on camera by a passerby. The blaze broke out in a two-storey apartment building at the corner of Edwards and Laurier streets at around 12:30 p.m. Monday. Two people were injured when they jumped from the second floor to escape. OPP said, following an investigation by police and the Office of the Fire Marshal, an arrest was made Wednesday.
Jury makes 60 recommendations following inquest into fatal Westboro bus crash

The jury at a coroner’s inquest into the fatal 2019 OC Transpo bus crash at Westboro Station has made 60 recommendations for improving safety and bus operator training with the aim of preventing future collisions. Judy Booth, Bruce Thomlinson and Anja Van Beek were killed when their double-decker bus slammed into a bus shelter overhang at Westboro Station on Jan. 11, 2019. The jury deemed each of their deaths accidental.
Wolfe Islander IV returns to Kingston, but has yet to resume service

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) says the Wolfe Islander IV ferry that moves between Kingston and Wolfe Island has returned from Hamilton after undergoing repairs. The electric ferry was damaged last December, just months after first coming into service, prompting the return of the older, smaller Wolfe Islander III ferry. The Wolfe Islander IV has yet to return to service. The MTO says it will undergo some tests first.
Ottawa Public Health confirms first cases of measles since 2019, lists possible exposure sites

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is reporting the city’s first confirmed cases of measles since 2019. In a news release Thursday, OPH said the cases affect an adult and a child, both of whom are believed to have acquired the infection while travelling internationally.
