The Ontario government says construction is underway to expand the emergency department and ambulatory care clinic at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in Renfrew County. The 20-bed community hospital in Barry’s Bay, Ont., west of Ottawa, is getting an $18.6 million investment from the province to expand access to care in the region.

Ontario Provincial Police say a driver who was pulled over on Highway 417 Friday was immediately pulled over a second time after peeling away from the first traffic stop. An officer first pulled the driver over near Anderson Road for speeding, the OPP said. “After a discussion and a warning about speeds, the officer issued the driver for having an obstructed licence plate,” police said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. But it wouldn’t be long before that driver was pulled over a second time.

Progress is being made toward building a home for people in Ottawa recovering from addictions, named after the late Matthew Perry, according to his sister who heads of the foundation that bears Perry’s name. Perry grew up in Ottawa before finding international stardom on the TV series “Friends.” He died in 2023 following challenges with addictions, something he had worked to help others overcome.

Ottawa paramedics say two people were transported to hospital in stable condition after a collision between a car and a school bus in rural south Ottawa Friday morning. It happened at around 7:30 a.m. on Old Prescott Road, near Stagecoach Road, paramedic spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps said. A man in the car was taken to hospital, as was a teenage girl on the bus. A teenage boy was assessed at the scene and released.
