For North side resident Annie Campbell, the odds that she would beat breast cancer looked to be in her favor. Campbell was diagnosed in October 2022 with HER2, an aggressive form of the disease. It was considered deadly until the early 2000s, when a treatment with a 95% cure rate was developed. Campbell, unfortunately, found herself in the other 5%.

The Musical” fills the Altria Theater stage with the gift of song March 4-16 with vibrant costumes, show-stopping choreography, and an array of pop tunes and original film favorite numbers. Taken from the 2001 Baz Luhrmann motion picture, the musical touts itself as a celebration of truth, beauty, freedom and love. Set at the turn of the 20th century, it focuses on a composer, Christian, who falls for the star of the Moulin Rouge club, Satine.

A program at Brightpoint Community College that supports students who are also parents has received a $10,000 funding boost. Brightpoint’s College Attainment for Parent Students received with the funds in November through the Truist Charitable Fund. “This grant funding will help students facing financial challenges so they can continue their education and achieve their goals,” says Bill Fiege, Brightpoint’s president.

The science seems settled. After thousands of studies over the course of decades, it’s been shown that the presence of a small amount of fluoride, a mineral added in drinking water (the U.S. Public Health Service currently recommends a level of 0.7 parts per million), inhibits tooth decay. In 1945, Grand Rapids, Michigan, was the first American city to add fluoride to its city water. Today, 67.1% of Americans have access to fluoridated water.
