Syracuse community members gathered on Jan. 21 for largest campus celebration of the late activist. Thousands of people from all walks of life – college students, older city residents, elementary school children – gathered in the JMA Wireless Dome on Sunday to honor the work of Martin Luther King Jr. The 39th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration was the largest campus event honoring the civil rights leader in the country, according to emcee Iris St. Meran, a local broadcast journalist.

Hundreds join the demonstration that was part of the nationwide “Shut it Down for Palestine” campaign. A demonstration in support of Palestinians drew hundreds of supporters who marched across Syracuse University’s campus on Thursday afternoon. The international call to action, dubbed “Shut It Down For Palestine,” included class walkouts on college campuses across the country to advocate for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

The Orange notched their most lopsided win of the season on a snowy night at SU Soccer Stadium. Following an up-and-down regular season, the Syracuse men’s soccer started its postseason with a bang, routing the North Carolina State Wolfpack 5-0 at SU Soccer Stadium in the opening round of the ACC Tournament. With a loss potentially forcing Syracuse out of NCAA Tournament contention, Head Coach Ian McIntyre looked for his players to inspire the crowd and win comfortably.

Theoplis Stewart II Freshman guard Sophie Burrows lurked behind sophomore guard Kennedi Perkins as she dribbled through the half-court. Perkins handed the ball to the Australian and set up a screen to open a shot from the arc. Burrows launched the missile without hesitation, knocking down her sixth three-pointer of the game.
