TIRUNELVELI/TENKASI: Amid mounting complaints from people that the quality of drinking water being supplied under various Combined Water Supply Schemes (CWSSs) in some southern districts is not good, it has come to light that the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board is drawing water directly from the Thamirabarani river instead of sourcing it through infiltration wells dug along the river bed. Infiltration well is a structure which removes impurities from water.

TIRUNELVELI: Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission (SRHC) imposed a penalty of Rs 4 lakh and recommended disciplinary action against a sub-inspector (SI) and a head constable (HC) who broke the leg of a suspect in 2020. In its order on Wednesday, the SHRC member and Judge V Kannadasan confirmed that SI R Vimalan and head constable N Maharajan had violated the human rights of the victim E Petchivel.

TIRUNELVELI: In light of the acute shortage of medical professionals in government hospitals, Dr J Rajamoorthi, the Director of Medical and Rural Health Services (DMS), has instructed Joint Directors (JDs) of Health Services in all districts to reject earned leave applications submitted by government doctors. In a circular issued on Wednesday, the director said JDs should not forward leave requests to his office until the shortage is addressed.

TIRUNELVELI: Doctors and patients from the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital (TvMCH) Super Speciality Block have complained that the centralised air conditioner (AC) in the operating theatre (OT) and post-operative wards has not been working for the past 10 days. A senior doctor working in TvMCH told TNIE that the non-functional AC system has put patients' lives at risk, with the surgeons' sweat dripping onto the patient's organs.
