A man and woman have been arrested after Gardaí seized cannabis worth almost €90,000 during the search of a grow house in Monaghan. Authorities made the arrest and seizure of cannabis plants and dried herbal cannabis worth an estimated €88,000 during the search of a residence under warrant in Castleblayney on Tuesday.

Four men have appeared in court in connection with a seizure of 100 kilos of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of €7m. Gorey District Court heard that the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau arrested the four men after the discovery at a farmyard in Knockadock, Kilmuckridge, Co Wexford, on Monday. The four men appeared before Judge John Cheatle with each accused being dealt with on an individual basis.

A SINN Fein councillor has resigned from the party after he claims he was "silenced" by fellow members on the migration crisis and recent referendums. Laois county councillor Aidan Mullins, who was elected in 2014, announced he would resign after being told that he would be suspended from Sinn Fein for three months. The Portarlington-based politician said he had been grappling with the decision for the last 12 months as he felt he was being "silenced".
