PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. (WMBD) — An early morning fire on Friday caused major damage to an iconic restaurant in Peoria Heights. Interim Fire Chief Tony Ardis said the alarm came at 4 a.m. and crews responded to Peoria Pizza Works, 921 N. Prospect Road. When they arrived, flames, the chief said, were shooting out of the roof, prompting an immediate call for backup and a request for mutual aid from their neighbor, the city of Peoria. Other departments that responded included Dunlap and West Peoria.

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Americans are known for indulging in many snacks throughout the day. However, one thing our diets usually lack is an important carbohydrate: fiber. OSF Healthcare dietitian Olivia DeLeon said that for a balanced diet, most people should get around 21 to 38 grams of fiber every day. But most people get about half that, about 10 to 15 grams. “[It’s] so beneficial to our health,” DeLeon said.

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A taste of New Orleans is coming to central Illinois. The Rotary Club of Peoria North will be holding its second annual Mardi Gras party this February. Ashley Schreck, the president of the club, stopped by WMBD This Morning to talk about the event. Schreck said the party will have plenty of entertainment, including live music by Dexter O’Neal and The Funk Yard Band. There will also be raffles for a European river cruise and a collection of rare bourbon.

This weekend, another event will pay tribute to the city’s history, but this time with a holiday twist. Friends in Harmony started in 2005 and has performed a Christmas concert every year since their inception.

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — An annual central Illinois tradition returns for the 42nd year, but for one man, it’s the last time he’ll be a part of it. Joseph Henry is the music director for the Peoria Area Civic Chorale. Next weekend, he’ll be leading them for their concert series “An American Family Christmas.” It’s the start of their season, but also his last as director. Henry will be retiring after the last concert of the season, currently scheduled for May 2025.

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A classic animated film comes to the stage in Peoria. The Community Children’s Theatre is presenting “Anastasia: The Musical,” based on the movie released in 1997. The play focuses on Anya, a young woman living in St. Petersburg in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution. Rumors circulate that Anastasia, the daughter of the former royal family, may have survived her family’s execution.
