A Philadelphia man who claims he was terminated from a job at Wawa in retaliation for complaining about same-sex workplace harassment is striving for his case to reach a jury. A Norristown, Pa. woman is suing the former Tabu Bar & Sports Lounge after allegedly falling on a karaoke stage floor rendered slippery due to entertainment featuring bubble blowing. Last month, Brittany Speary filed suit against Tabu in Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, requesting more than $50,000 in damages. Tabu was recently purchased by new owners and renamed “254.” It’s located at 254 S. 12th St. in the Gayborhood. Bubble blowing is a popular form of entertainment.

The Trump administration this week asked the U.S. Supreme Court to allow it to enforce a ban on transgender troops serving in the military, while legal challenges to the ban move forward. On April 24, Solicitor General D. John Sauer filed an emergency application with the high court, asking it to stay a nationwide injunction issued by U.S. District Judge Benjamin H. Settle in Washington state, blocking enforcement of the ban.

On April 22, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments regarding whether a group of Maryland parents can pull their elementary-school children from classes featuring books with LGBTQ themes or characters. The dispute began in 2022, when the Montgomery County School System in Maryland approved books with LGBTQ+ characters or themes in its language-arts curriculum. In March 2023, the school board announced there would be no opt-outs for these lessons, citing a need for inclusivity and acceptance.
