HOOD RIVER, OR – In Hood River, community leaders are hoping to ease a housing shortage with a new housing project called Mariposa Village. Groundbreaking recently took place at 780 Rand Road in West Hood River. The City of Hood River donated the land, and Community Development Partners will join with Columbia Cascade Housing Corporation co-developing site. With 130 units, the development is expected to be the largest addition of new affordable rental housing to Hood River since 2011.

PORTLAND, OR – On Saturday evening, Portland Fire crews responded to a two-alarm fire at the former grain silos located at 900 North Thunderbird Way, just west of the Rose Quarter. While on the Broadway Bridge, firefighters said they spotted smoke rising from the north end of the structure. After crews reached the scene, the incident commander requested all train traffic to stop in the area, so hose lines could be run across the tracks nearby.

PORTLAND, OR – On Saturday morning, Portland firefighters rescued from a rooftop a man who was allegedly intoxicated. A short time later, Portland Police Bureau officers arrested the man on burglary and other charges. The event started when officers from the Central Precinct responded to a report of a trespasser on the top of the fifth floor Portland Heliport at 33 Northwest Davis Street. The OBMP, based at the Oregon Health Authority Public Health Division, monitors some of the most frequently visited beaches in the state.

BEAVERTON, OR – On Friday, June 6, off-duty Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue firefighters will take to the streets for their annual “Fill the Boot for the Muscular Dystrophy Association” event. Members of Firefighters Union Local 1660 will ask passing motorists to drop a donation into their fire boots between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and Canyon Road on-ramps and off-ramps to Highway 217 in Beaverton.
