The so-called world's first sperm race was held in downtown Los Angeles Friday, drawing a rather large crowd. But how did this all start? Well, that's where Eric Zhu comes in. With the help of wealthy investors, the 17-year-old student and entrepreneur from the Bay Area launched the competition to raise awareness of men's health and male fertility.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- The community came together on Saturday night to remember a beloved nurse and wife of a Los Angeles city firefighter. Hailey Okula died on March 29 during childbirth from a rare condition, shortly after delivering her son, Crew. Now, the community is rallying behind her grief-stricken husband and family. Hundreds of friends and loved ones gathered near the ocean in Huntington Beach for a candlelight vigil.

MALIBU, Calif. (KABC) -- A Malibu Bookstore is fighting to stay afloat. The shop and its owners have endured some serious challenges, including the Palisades Fire and the on-again, off-again closure of Pacific Coast Highway. Now, Malibu Village Books -- Malibu's only independent bookstore -- is turning to its community to give the small business a fighting chance. Saturday was National Independent Bookstore Day. The store opened two years ago, but now, it's on life support.
