The Glenwood Community School District board last week passed an operating budget for next year that includes another reduction in taxes. What’s more, the district is planning to start a new method of teaching this fall, pending state approval. The five-member body on April 14 unanimously approved a budget totaling $35,875,018 for fiscal year 2026, with a property tax rate that dropped to $13.25 per $1,000 in taxable valuation from $14.50 per $1,000 in taxable valution this year.

Road work for this year and beyond was a key issue at the April 15 Mills County Board of Supervisors meeting. The three-member board unanimously approved the five-year road plan, an annual guide on proposed projects down the road. “We try to do a big overlay project one year and a bridge replacement every other year,” County Engineer Jacob Ferro said. The proposed projects listed in the five-year plan are:• 215th Street bridge replacement north of Norris Avenue.

As a way to hide their unlawful homemade products, one family had the children play on a swing set to confuse federal agents unaware the stuff they were seeking was buried underneath the swings.

It's not just exclusively for women, either. “Most of our clientele is women, but every now and then we’ll get a guy in here for ear piercing and tattoos,” business owner Brandy Gage said. Gage and her staff celebrated their new location at 108 E. Broadway with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday that featured blasts of confetti.
