Kendall Qualls To Make Second GOP Run For Governor of Minnesota

Republicans have their first contender for the 2026 governor’s race. Kendall Qualls is planning a campaign kickoff event Tuesday in St. Louis Park. It’ll be his second bid for governor after losing out on the endorsement at the GOP convention in 2022. Qualls is a former Fortune 100 executive leader and Army veteran. He also ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2020. Current DFL Gov. Tim Walz has not yet announced if he’ll seek a third term.

Rep. Kasper Moved From Bismarck To PAM Rehabilitation Hospital in Fargo

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Representative Jim Kasper is back in Fargo and continuing to recover after experiencing a brain bleed during the legislative session. He has been in a Bismarck hospital since April 23. A statement from District 46 Republicans reveals that Kasper was moved last Thursday to PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital in south Fargo. According to Kasper’s wife, Sandy, she says he is ready to work hard to get better and is getting stronger day by day.
Fire at Compost Site Contained by Moorhead and Dilworth Fire Departments

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) — A fire broke out around 3:30 on a very windy Sunday afternoon at Moorhead’s compost site near Highway 75 and 15th avenue North. Crews arrived to find multiple compost piles on fire. Moorhead Fire was assisted by Dilworth Fire and they were able to┬áconfine the fire within the compost site. City personnel will remain on-site to monitor the area until the fire is fully extinguished and deemed safe.
Four Teens Involved In High Speed Chase, Injured After Crashing In Jamestown

STUTSMAN CO., N.D. (KVRR) — Four teens are involved in a high speed chase with North Dakota Highway Patrol before getting into a crash in Jamestown. The trooper tried to stop the teens in Kidder County before 8 a.m. but they fled at speeds of over 100 miles per hour. The chase was called off when they drove into Jamestown. A short time later, a Jamestown officer tried to stop the vehicle before it was involved in a crash at an intersection with another vehicle.
Jamestown Woman Accused of Child Abuse At Unlicensed Daycare

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (KVRR) — A Jamestown woman is arrested for alleged child abuse involving a victim under 6 years old. 55-year-old Deborah Jespersen is also accused of providing early childhood services after her license was revoked. The investigation began last month when a 6-month-old child suffered a fracture of the arm while under the care of an unlicensed childcare provider. On Friday night, a search warrant was carried out at Jespersen’s home and police seized evidence.
Longtime Grand Forks Herald Columnist Chuck Haga Has Died

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR) — Longtime former Grand Forks Herald journalist Chuck Haga has died. His son sharing the news on Haga’s Facebook page saying his dad died peacefully shortly after midnight. Haga wrote on social media back in April that he was dealing with lung cancer that had spread to his brain. He had a long newspaper career with Grand Forks Herald and Minneapolis Star Tribune and retired as a full-time journalist in 2013.
People Displaced By Early Morning House Fire Near Alexandria, MN

DOUGLAS CO., Minn. (KVRR) — A fire spreads from a porch into a house and causes severe damage in Lake Mary Township near Alexandria, just south of I-94. Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was alerted about the fire around 5:45 this morning. They say several people had evacuated the house by the time they arrived. It is believed the cause of the fire was accidental. American Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced tenants. The case remains under investigation.

In a social media post, the owners say they are working hard to get the restaurant open in June in “The Lights” development. They plan to offer lunch, dinner, catering, a full bar, homemade desserts and more.
Sen. Hoeven Presses Ag Secretary Rollins To Fully Staff FSA Offices

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KVRR) — Sen. John Hoeven is asking the Ag Secretary to prioritize fully staffing Farm Service Agency field offices. He is chairman of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee. Hoeven says it’s important to have staff in place as the USDA application process for weather-based disaster aid will begin in the coming weeks. He thanked Secretary Brooke Rollins for already delivering $10 billion in market-based agriculture disaster assistance to producers.
