A pressurisation defect that deprived the pilot of oxygen resulted in a fatal plane crash that claimed the lives of three people in outback Queensland in 2023, a transport safety investigation has found. Queensland's only certified carbon neutral council is set lose that title, blaming the rising cost of delivering services and successive natural disasters for its inability to fund the process. Logan City Council, south of Brisbane, said it also had concerns around transparency and where the funds it was paying to be certified were going. The council is one of 14 local governments around Australia registered with the federal government's Climate Active program.

A new $85 million greyhound racing facility in Queensland was touted as being "safe" for dogs and having animal welfare at the centre of its construction. But ahead of its official opening this weekend at least six animals have already died from injuries sustained at the track, and dozens more have been injured.

At least six dogs have died due to injuries sustained at Queensland's new premier greyhound racing track before its official opening, despite the promise it would be "as safe as possible" for animals. The three-track facility at Purga, near Ipswich, called The Q has been holding trials since March before its official opening this weekend. The Queensland government put $44.15 million from the racing infrastructure fund towards the $85 million facility.
