As a Queensland shire braces for river rises and flooding, almost a quarter of its flood-monitoring cameras are offline after they were deliberately shot at or vandalised. Balonne Shire, in south-west Queensland, has 19 cameras in flood-prone locations to monitor water levels. Images from the cameras are published to council's disaster dashboard, available to authorities and the community.

From snake bites victims to crashed paragliders and a couple stranded in the outback near croc-infested waters, more Queenslanders were rescued by LifeFlight in 2024 than in any other year. The aerial rescue service helped a record 8,477 people in 2024, up 13 per cent on the previous year. In short: An ancient fish fossil has been returned to a museum in north-west Queensland after a decade. Jeppy was being painstakingly cleaned by palaeontologist and natural history artist Paul Stumkat. What's next? The specimen will soon be placed back on display at Kronosaurus Korner in Richmond. After a decade-long journey, a fish fossil dating back more than 100 million years has been returned to its home in outback Queensland.
