Western Lucas County’s Girdham Road Sand Dunes will become Ohio’s 151st state nature preserve on Monday. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources said it will make it official at a 1 p.m. dedication ceremony and ribbon-cutting that day at Oak Opening Preserve Metropark’s Buehner Center. The dunes are within Oak Openings Preserve Metropark.

About 40 people came out on a cold, rainy night Wednesday to get a live, in-person update about the Toledo Regional Water Commission’s biggest project to date and to meet face-to-face with several Toledo officials who are working on it. The $175 million project involves the eventual replacement of Toledo’s 78-inch water main that connects the city’s low-service pump station in Reno Beach to its Collins Park Water Treatment Plant at the East Toledo-Oregon border nine miles away.
